Welcome to my web page! I'm Fuego (sometimes they call me Gizmo), a yellow-phase Saharan Spine-tailed lizard (Uromastyx geryi).
My human Tori originally wanted a Bearded Dragon, but her mom didn't want to have crickets and insects in the house. Mom said "if only there was a vegetarian lizard..." and they found ME!
I originate from the desert regions in Nigeria, so I like it HOT! I have two basking lights that get my basking area up to about 125 degrees F. The hot side of my enclosure is about 97-100 degrees, and I cool off on the other side at about 85 degrees. At night I chill out to about 75 degrees.
I also need a special UVB light that helps me use calcium. And to top it off, I have a broad-spectrum fluorescent bulb so it's really really bright for me.
I'm an herbivore. I eat endive/escarole, dandelion greens, and squash every day. For treats, my humans also give me bok choy, alfalfa sprouts, cilantro, edible flowers, nasturtium leaves, finch seed, bee pollen, and sometimes fresh peas or beans from the garden. My humans are so crazy about me that they grow their own dandelions for me, can you believe that!?!?!
I use the spikes on my tail to defend myself. When I sleep under rocks at night, I make sure that my tail is facing out for protection. I love my new home, and I have three feline babysitters who like to spend time watching me.
